Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons

lisa-in-peekaboo(2)Obviously we don’t want to take our kids to possibly dangerous places. On the other hand, some adults may want to experience challenging adventures and enjoy nice views. Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Slot Canyons are a perfect solution.

Situated at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Peek-a-Boo and Spooky are considered to be among the best slot canyons in Utah and possibly the world.

Everyone in the family can visit the slot canyon and enjoy the view, but there are precautions that you need to keep in mind. Pets are not allowed. Those who are extremely claustrophobic need to be aware that the slot canyons do get a bit narrow in some spots. People of a large build may find it difficult especially when hiking Spooky.

After parking to start the adventure go all the way down to the open wash. You will see a slot canyon to the left, but this isn’t Peek-a-boo. It is to the right. The first and only ascent can be a little difficult to scramble up. It’s about 10 or 12’ up.peek a boo

Once up, you will feel as if you have come to a different world. With its archways, you can witness that beautiful glow in canyons that you will not ever see elsewhere. The canyon widens and the angles would start to subside as you go further in.

How are the Peek-a-Boo and Spooky Canyon different? Spooky Canyon’s walls are straighter. Spooky Canyon is also deeper compared to Peek-a-Boo. Bring at least a small tripod when taking photos in these canyons.
